The Investing Blog came across some interesting statistics taken from a recent survey of entrepreneurs and I thought I’d pass on the information…
- 44% of 1,000 small business owners surveyed think running a business is less risky than investing in the stock market
- 37% of people would like to make their fortune in stocks
My thinking is…why can’t you make a fortune by having a small business AND investing in the stock market? I’ve always believed that you shouldn’t “put all your eggs in one basket” and that you should diversify your money. Everything has its cycle - businesses go through a sales cycle and the stock market has its own cycle. If something is experiencing a down-turn, you always have back-up!I think people should be thinking more about multiple streams of income versus relying on one sole source of money. Why not dabble in real estate, internet businesses and the stock market all at the same time?
This is why I don’t think many people get ahead in life -- they rely too much on one thing and when that one thing crashes, well, it wipes them out. Make 2007 the year that you diversify!!
